RAPID-FIRE Q/A
Three words to describe you? Curious, Creative, Compassionate
What was your first arts "aha" moment, including how old were you? Until the age of 7 my parents, older sister, and I lived in a home that had concrete floors like a sidewalk and my parents encouraged us to color them with chalk. I remember coloring the floor of our living room and decorating the places we walked. Looking back, they gave us permission to be creative and to share the experience of making art.
Why are you a teaching artist? Art forms are tools for constructive self expression and sharing those tools is incredibly rewarding.
In five words or less, why do you love your art form? Messy. Beautiful. Forgiving. Fun. Reflective.
Finish the sentence: "Because of Arts Ed..." we make meaningful connections between content, each other, and ourselves.
What does success look like during your residency? Success looks like students engaged in their artwork, supporting one another, and coming away from the experience feeling more confident.
What’s an important life skill you gained through the arts? Expression.
Who is an artist that changed your life? My grandmother, Dorothy (Dot) Christoffers Newman.
If you were entering a talent show, what would be your specific talent? Tight wire
Do you have a secret (or not so secret) obsession? Yard sales and thrift stores
