All Grade Levels, Dance, Movement Improvisation and Performance, Breadth of Previous Programming
DISCIPLINE // Dance, Movement Improvisation & Collaborative Community Performance
GRADE LEVELS // K-12
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION // Turning the Wheel Missoula fosters healthy communities and empowered individuals through dance and improvisation. The body is a powerful mechanism for learning and a great medium for teaching communication, personal realization and story, collaboration, well-being and community engagement. So in addition to weaving Language Arts, Social Studies and/or Health curriculum into our movement classes, we simultaneously foster valuable life skills and strong classroom communities… AND it’s FUN!
TTWM has served thousands of children, teachers and community members since 2001. Our lead facilitators, Lizzi Juda and Lulu Delphine, are highly trained with a lifetime of teaching experience in addition to being movement artists, so you can trust that your students will be well guided toward their fullest expression and deepest learning, as you receive a program catered to your curricular needs. Lulu and Lizzi teach all over the country and also offer adult classes and teacher trainings for private groups and as part of the University of Montana’s Creative Pulse program.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION // There are several program options, catered to the thematic and curricular needs of the school and classrooms. Duration can vary from one guest artist session or “in service” to a semester long residency.
Programs can be stand alone movement experiences, touching into standards for dance, theater and health and/or can culminate in a performance designed and produced by the students themselves. For a formal performance, we often utilize other media like photographic projection, audio recordings, set and costume design, with everybody playing an important part and every story shining. If a school is not interested in a performative culmination, we offer many opportunities for in-class sharing that gives students an opportunity to utilize what they are learning and be seen in a supportive community.
AVAILABLE PROGRAMMING // Missoula Flagship in several schools, the YWCA GUTS program, the University of MT Creative Pulse program, Willard Alternative School, Sentinel High School, Sussex School, Chrysalis Girl’s School, Gifted Education Conference, Montana Educator’s Conference, ACDA, Lowell Elementary School, Cold Springs Elementary, First Night Missoula, private birthday parties and events. Adult classes and trainings called “Tapestry” and “The Body as Teacher” as well as a summer residential retreat called “The Body Now.” Because we are a non-profit, all proceeds generated by paid programming fund additional programs serving youth.
