DISCIPLINE // Sculpture & Drawing
BIO // For twenty three years, Stephen held the position of curator at the Missoula Art Museum (MAM). He has experience teaching at every level, elementary through higher education including ten years implementing art education programming for the Northwest Children’s Home. Stephen has also taught for Walla Walla Community College in Clarkston Washington. During his stint as curator at the MAM, he has also served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Montana, teaching for Creative Pulse, Art Education and Sculpture I and II.
ARTIST STATEMENT // My teaching philosophy is simple. The arts are language. I believe that the arts play a vital role in a person’s self-esteem. I believe that students move through the arts in natural stages. The arts are organically inter-disciplinary. As a teacher or facilitator I enjoy being involved in creative problem solving. We know that no culture has existed without the arts. Serious, enthusiastic support by adults for the creative problem solving by children is critical for nurturing a lifelong passion for the arts.
