BIO //Dr. Rachel Petite is a violinist-actor- playwright and passionate Arts Educator. She has performed internationally, and taught violin for over twenty years. A doctoral fellow, she studied and performed with a host of music legends. She has also worked as an actor, and as a budding playwright and , has had plays presented for staged readings at Missoula Colony.
Passionate about teaching literacy through the arts, she was granted special permission by Jack Prelutsky to narrate his version of “Carnival of the Animals,” She has used his and other poets’ similar work as a successful springboard for Arts Integrative and Explorative hands on learning.
Students of all levels and ages enjoy an exploration of the creative process through the avenues of:: movement, visual art, puppetry, musical improvisation and word play and composition.
Ms. Petite enjoys working collaboratively with other teachers, is comfortable teaching pre-k through adult, and has been a sub and a parent volunteer with MCPS for a number of years.
She also loves to teach using Democratic process in a child centered curriculum which allows
students to vote on directional choices as they go. Thus no class is exactly the same.
