Grades K-8, Printmaking, Painting, Puppets, Drawing and Dance, Teaching Experience
DISCIPLINE // Printmaking, Painting, Puppets, Drawing, and Dance
TEACHING ARTIST STATEMENT // Patricia has been teaching for 25 years, and was an art instructor at an elementary school in Marin County, California, before moving to Missoula in 2005. She now works at the Zootown Arts Community Center where she teaches children and adult art classes and camps, focuses ranging from murals to mosaics. Patricia is also an experienced professional artist; she had a solo exhibition at the Missoula Art Museum in 2014.
ARTIST STATEMENT // Most people are socialized to think that adults do not play with toys. Art, to me, is a kind of play that is still somehow allowed by society. Through art, I engage in play with ideas. The art I create ends up being a visual dialogue of everything I have been thinking about.
Art helps me cope with my own challenges while raising awareness, building connections between people, and challenging perceptions. It is my sincere hope that this approach will inspire people to take risks through experimentation, and to use what is around them: nature, art supplies, other people’s stories, places – as materials.
