ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION // The MAM serves the public by engaging audiences and artists in the exploration of contemporary art relevant to the community, state and region. – MAM Board of Directors, 2008
Founded in 1975 and accredited by the American Association of Museums since 1987, MAM has always been a flagship institution in Missoula, Montana. After a $5.3 million capital campaign and grand opening in September 2006, MAM offers a spectacular attraction in the heart of the historic downtown: a fully accessible, free, public museum that boasts six exhibition spaces, a library, education center, and an inviting information lounge. MAM is dedicating to providing quality art education experiences to all visitors.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION // MAM hosts an Annual 5th Grade Art Experience which serves over 1000 fifth grade students from Missoula and Western Montana. For other grades, MAM offers free tours, geared specifically to your class’s age group. An art project can be added for an additional fee.
In addition to tours, MAM offers a range of public educational programs including artist’s lectures, workshops and studio art classes for all ages and abilities.
AVAILABLE PROGRAMS // Fifth Grade Art Experience: A yearly program which brings every fifth grade class in the area to the museum for a tour and art project. This program is free for all schools.
Other tours: Tours are typically one hour in length and are led by a trained Art Guide or Museum Staff. Please schedule two weeks in advance. To include an art project with your tour add $5/ per person (minimum of 10).
Teacher training classes: MAM offers occasional classes for teachers based on artists from MAM’s Contemporary American Indian Art Collection.
