All Grade Levels, Dance, Photography, Writing Master Teacher and Teacher Consultant
DISCIPLINE // Dance, Photography & Writing
TEACHING ARTIST STATEMENT // Lulu teaches dance, photography and writing arts integration to teach math, science, ELA.
Lulu teaches movement awareness and dance to all abilities. Her master’s degree focused on embodied and alternative learning methods. She is inspired by the potential of learning through movement and has designed many programs for language arts, social studies and environmental studies arts integration.
She began working extensively with youth as an undergraduate student 20 years ago. She was a part of Project eARTh, which exposed inner city St. Louis children to personal biography writing, poetry, gardening, photography, and other mixed media art as a means to tell their stories. Lulu also taught photography and mixed media at the Center of Creative Arts in St. Louis. Lulu delights in merging photography with Language Arts, Social Studies, nature studies and SEL.
With an MA in Photography and Media Communications, a Masters of Education focused on embodied and project based education, and as Director and Facilitator for arts non profit Turning the Wheel Missoula, Lulu has a lifetime of experience teaching in classrooms around the country. She is passionate about supporting teachers to fold arts integration into their own teaching and is an instructor for The Creative Pulse graduate program at The University of MT.
Collaborating with Lulu means you have an ally to support you in your greater academic goals for students. She is someone who pledges to inspire a love for the expressive arts while also creating aware individuals and a cohesive community.
ARTIST STATEMENT // Through photography, writing and dance, I catch happiness. Mary Oliver said, “Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell others.” That’s why I make art. I am fascinated by telling a universal story and creating a unified image that inspires wonder, a strong mood and suggestion of ways we choose to relate to one another and our environment.
I believe in the power of art to heal and create community, so I am deeply inspired by community art and multi-disciplinary work that brings collaborators (students) together to learn and create.
