BIO // Hillary has been teaching for 18 years. She has taught creative movement, movement awareness and African dance since 1999. Hillary has also taught in schools, in independent settings and in universities in Washington, Montana, California, and Massachusetts. She has a bachelors in Ethnomusicology UW, Seattle, 2001 (emphasis in African Drumming and Dance), and a Masters in Counseling Psychology Somatics California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, CA 2006 (emphasis in Movement Therapy). Also, Hillary has Circles of Four 5 year certification in Authentic Movement Training Galiano Island, BC, Canada 2017.
ARTIST STATEMENT // “In my teaching I use my understanding of child development as a basis for beginning exploration into self awareness, self expression, and development of dance/movement technique. As an artist, teacher, and a psychotherapist, I incorporate my experience with creative process and choreography, study of mindfulness and movement, travel to West Africa to study community dance, technique and performance to create, fun, engaging classes which are personally and artistically satisfying for teachers and students. I love collaborating with teachers about how my work in the classroom can support their ongoing curriculum.” – Hillary
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION // Short-term and Long-term residencies. Hillary wishes to collaborate with teachers to integrate movement into their curriculum. In her classes she will provide movement instruction, self expression and self awareness work. She offers this with a format based in African Dance or Authentic Movement based creative movement.
